IDEAS TO HELP WITH AUTISTIC HEAD-BANGING.

Ideas to help deal with Autistic head-banging.

I know what you are all thinking.....
"She's done it!  She has cured her son's head-banging!....."

Well... No!    But I have tried so many different ideas that I thought I would compile them here. Just because they didn't work for my son.... doesn't mean they will not work for some-one else.

1. Boardmaker Pecs of a head-bang with a massive red line through it.
2. Time-Out.
3. Sympathy.
4. Ignoring the head-bang.
5. Modelling appropriate behaviour.
6. Using my eldest as a positive guide.
7. Getting "cross" facial expressions and gestures included.
8. Limiting play time at school.... basically missing out on something he loves to do.
9. An exercise Mat attached to the wall.... so he will not damage the wall.... (basically my son went straight through the exercise mat.
10. A long piece of carpet attached to the wall to try and change the texture... deterring the butt!
11. Ignoring the BAD BEHAVIOUR and rewarding the POSITIVE.
12. My mother wanted to make him a headband with pillows attached to it.... so he wouldn't hurt himself....   it didn't eventuate.
13. Allowing him one spot in the house to head-butt.  Like a designated area- surrounded by cushions.
14. Bribery with Freddo Frogs.... worked for toilet training so I figured... what the heck!
15. Video - modelling appropriate behaviours.
16. Trying to defuse the situation before the "butt" happens using sensory stimulation.
17. Distraction.
18. A look of shock and no words... working off gesture.
19. Wearing hat- impossible to do 100% of the time.... especially when in the bath - but I have heard the weighted hats you can buy on line are proving to be very successful.
20. Physically restraining him.
21. Putting a band-aide on his head where the bruise and bump is. (Having some success with this as he assimilates a band-aide with a sore/cut.)
22. Video taping the inappropriate behaviour. He hates watching it back and at present it seems to be snapping him straight out of the tantrum.   Well for this week anyway!

It's always good to be creative.

Hello there, There's no doubt that your website could possibly be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your blog in Safari, it looks fine but when opening in I.E., it's got some overlapping issues.
I just wanted to provide you with a quick
